We’re going to try something different this year for Ash Wednesday. We’ll be having a Drive Through Ash Wednesday Service. No burgers or fries, just Ashes. You will stay in your car and the Ashes come to you. On Wednesday February 17th, from 5 to 7 PM, you can drive through the porte-cochere at the front door of the church where Pastor Steve or Pastor David will come out to your car for a prayer and the imposition of ashes on your forehead.
You will need to wear a mask because the pastor will be within arm’s reach. We have thought it through and have come up with a way to keep everyone safe and not transmit any unwanted viruses, just Ashes.
Various less-than-sacred names have been proposed for this service, but the one I like the most, thought up by a former member, is “Ash and Dash.” So, on your way home from work, before or after dinner, maybe on your way to somewhere, pull into the porte-cochere for Ash and Dash, and you’re on your way into the season of Lent.
