No, it is not common for churches to hang quilts up during the season of Epiphany, between Christmas and Lent. However, it is a tradition of The United Methodist Church of Chugiak. We have, over the years, had several quilters in our church community. The quilts add a warmth to our winter worship and also celebrate some of the fine handiwork of our members and friends.
And this year, quilts — with their many pieces coming together to form a beautiful tapestry — have served as an illustration of of community and how we are “Better Together.”
The quilts will come down this Sunday. But here is a look at the beautiful artwork that has adorned our walls for this season.
